Jeep Wrangler 4xe: The Rustic Offroad Goes Hybrid

Like the Mercedes G-Class, the Jeep Wrangler has always kept its rustic and attractive cubic design while modernizing and constantly improving its technological endowment. With the adoption of a rechargeable hybrid engine, a new step has been taken in the career of the American off-roader. This new version is thus added to the electrified range of the manufacturer, already offering the Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe.

No variation in style for the legendary American adventurer in this new plug-in hybrid version, apart from a few distinctive touches of color (electric blue). But if the packaging remains identical, the Wrangler 4xe does adopt a latest-generation powertrain, allowing it to combine the best of both worlds. Between fuel economy and silent operation in 100% electric, the all-terrain indeed retains its excellent crossing capabilities. Don’t forget to upgrade your vehicle with Jeep Wrangler led headlights, it is recommended to do it. The in-house engineers have complied with the law of electrification by opting for a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit, associated with two electric motors, for a total power of 375 hp. Available in 4xe, Sahara 4xe and Rubicon 4xe versions, the new plug-in hybrid Wrangler will be ready for sale in the United States, Europe and China from the beginning of 2021.

Hybrid variants flourish among all manufacturers, for all categories of vehicles. Today, these “green” powertrains often offer better performance than equivalent thermal versions. In the case of the Wrangler, the four-cylinder 2.0 turbo petrol unit associated with two electric motors allows the 4xe version to develop no less than 375 hp and 637 Nm of cumulative torque. Values that exceed those of the 3.0 Diesel version of the all-terrain, ecological awareness and more.

Autonomy of 40 km in full-electric mode
Associated with the two electric motors, the 17 kWh lithium-ion battery allows the Wrangler 4xe to drive in all-electric mode for 40 km at best. Positioned under the rear seats, it should not influence the volume of the boot. As a hybrid version, the Wrangler is equipped with a specific “E Selec” driving mode selector offering three possibilities, favoring the choice of the thermal block or electric motors: Hybrid, Electric or eSave. Despite all this technological hardware, the Wrangler 4xe retains its gift for crossing, with an angle of attack of 44°, a departure angle of 35.6°, a ground clearance of 27.4 cm and a capacity of passage wading up to 76 cm deep.
